Mt. Gilead Post investigating two-vehicle fatal crash in Morrow County

Galion – The Mt. Gilead Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash that occurred on June 6, 2024 at approximately 5:52 p.m. on State Route 19 near County Road 8 in North Bloomfield Township, Morrow County.

The preliminary investigation showed a 2002 Buick LeSabre, operated by Julie Switzer, age 58, of Galion, Ohio, was driving eastbound on County Road 8. Katrina Christo, age 44, of Galion, Ohio, was operating a 2021 Jeep Wrangler southbound on State Route 19. Ms. Switzer failed to yield from the stop sign and entered the intersection where she was struck by Ms. Christo. After impact, both vehicles continued off the east side of the roadway.

Ms. Switzer sustained fatal injuries at the scene. Ms. Christo sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the traffic crash. Alcohol is a suspected factor in this crash.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, Iberia Fire Department, Galion Fire & EMS, Morrow County EMS, and the Morrow County Coroner’s Office.
