No. 4 East Knox won the first two rounds of the playoffs to become Sectional champions in the Division III, Central 1 baseball tournament, but the Bulldog bats couldn’t get going on the District Semifinals in a 5-0 loss to Newark Catholic.
On May 13 the Bulldogs handily defeated No. 26 Columbus International 19-1, in a game where they allowed only one hit and piled on 12 of their own.
East Knox piled on seven runs in the first, eight runs in the second and four runs in the third, while allowing a run in the fourth inning.
Caden Wengerd was 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs to lead the East Knox offensive surge. Six players hit doubles in the win, including Ashton Priest, Bracen Davis, Bryar Householder, Colton Armstrong, Shane Gardner and Zayne Grennell.
Davis was 2-for-2 with three RBIs and a run, and Armstrong and Jaxon Lester each had two RBIs.
Derrick Field pitched two perfect innings with six strikeouts to get the win for East Knox.
On May 15 the Bulldogs blanked No. 5 Grandview Heights 3-0, with Householder throwing a two hitter with 14 strikeouts to pick up the complete game shutout victory.
The Bulldogs went up 1-0 in the first inning on an RBI single by Householder. They scored again in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Wengerd, and in the sixth inning when Josh Keith scored on an error.
East Knox only managed three hits in the game, with singles by Wengerd, Householder and Field.
The Bulldogs took on the No. 6 Green Wave on May 20, and Newark was able to belt 10 hits to take the 5-0 shutout.
East Knox could only muster three singles in the game by Keith, Householder and Armstrong.
Householder took the loss, pitching all seven innings, allowing five earned runs, 10 hits and a walk, while striking out eight batters.
East Knox finished the season with a 19-5 record.
