The Cardington-Lincoln softball team has started the season 6-1, and last week they had a pair of excellent pitching performances by Genevieve Longsdorf to pace the Pirates in the circle.
Cardington-Lincoln 7, Northmor 1
The Cardington-Lincoln softball team led early and never looked back in a 7-1 win over the Northmor Golden Knights on April 10, led by Morgan Powell who had four hits and drove in four runs.
Longsdorf led off the game with a single and was replaced by Kinstin Henthorn as a courtesy runner Celia Hall followed with a double that sent Henthorn to third. Morgan Powell then stepped up and hit a double to center, scoring two runs.
After two straight outs, Alexis Longsdorf singled and Powell came around to score to make it a 3-0 game.
In the fourth inning, Powell did some more damage with an RBI double to left to give the Pirates a 4-0 lead. In the bottom half of the inning, Northmor got on the board when Kendal Fulk knocked in Mahaila Srobel.
Then in the top of the fifth, Cardington-Lincoln made it a 6-1 lead when Bishop grounded out but Alexis Longsdorf was able to score. They added an insurance run in the seventh on a Hailey Littlemeyer RBI single.
Genevieve Longsdorf had fantastic stuff, going all seven innings allowing only one hit, one earned run, two walks, while striking out 12 batters.
Shelby Cooper picked up the loss for Northmor, but Kate Kissling went six and one-third innings of solid relief. She allowed four runs with two earned, eight hits and two walks.
Powell was the top Pirate on offense with a 4-for-4 day with three doubles, driving in three RBIs and scoring once. Madison Dornon had a triple and a run scored, and Hall went 2-for-4 with a run.
Fulk had a double on a 1-for-3 day for the Golden Knights, while Katalina Roseberry and Strobel each drew walks.
Cardington-Lincoln 7, Hamilton Township 0
The day before, Genevieve Longsdorf was a master in the pitching circle against Hamilton Township, throwing a two-hit shutout while striking out 10 in a 7-0 win for the Pirates.
Littlemeyer put the Pirates on the board in the second inning in RBI single that scored Alexis Longsdorf. Then in the top of the third inning, Hall hit an inside-the-park homer that scored Henthorn to make it a 3-0 lead. After a Burchett double, Alexis Longsdorf struck out but reached on a dropped third strike from a passed ball. Powell and Burchett both scored on an error by the catcher, making it 5-0.
Cardington-Lincoln scored a couple of insurance runs in the seventh inning when Littlemeyer brought two runners home on a double to left field.
The Pirates went off for 12 hits in the one-sided victory. Hall was the star at the plate, as she picked up a pair of RBIs while going 3-for-4 with a homer and two doubles. Littlemeyer went 2-for-4, and smashed a double for Cardington-Lincoln. Kayden Burchett and Genevieve Longsdorf also hit doubles.
Longsdorf was perfect through three innings before allowing a walk and a fielder's choice in the fourth. She allowed a single in the fifth and a single in the sixth, but otherwise she was dominant through and through.
