Carson D. Castleman was officially inaugurated as the president of Mount Vernon Nazarene University (MVNU). In his inaugural address, he spoke about the promising future of the university, its faculty, staff, and students, and the Church of the Nazarene.
According to an MVNU press release, Castleman stated, "As we start a new chapter here at MVNU, I am reminded today of the new opportunity set before each of us. I say ‘us’ because today is not simply about me. It is about the ‘whole’ organization and the commitment to building on the past and forging ahead to a new and bright future together."
Castleman further expressed his dedication to upholding the values and mission of both the university and church. He pledged his commitment to fostering an environment that encourages intellectual growth, spiritual formation, and a heart for service among students. He also vowed to lead with integrity, responsibility, and transparency.
During his inauguration speech, Castleman challenged attendees to embrace future opportunities. "Let us not be bound by limitations or fears but rather embrace these opportunities with a deep faith rooted in Christ Jesus," said Castleman. "Faith is the belief in things unseen, trust in Jesus Christ guiding our paths. This faith can empower us to overcome any obstacles that may come our way. It enables us to see beyond the surface, recognize potential in every situation, and seize the moment."
The inauguration ceremony featured several speakers including Johnna Vanover, MVNU’s vice president for Enrollment & Marketing; Mount Vernon Mayor Matthew Starr; Chancellor Mike Duffey from Ohio Department of Higher Education; David W. Graves from Church of the Nazarene; Claire Perry who read Isaiah 40:28-31 NI from Scripture; Angela Castleman and Amy Miller who provided special music accompanied by pianist Mike Williams.
