Mount Vernon Nazarene University's theatre program has scheduled performances of "Meet Me in St. Louis" for March 22-24. The production is appropriate for all audiences.

Director Zac Sherman ('14), who also serves as the coordinator of Theatre at Mount Vernon Nazarene University (MVNU), expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming performance. According to an MVNU press release, he said, "Most people are familiar with the musical adaptation of Meet Me in St. Louis. However, I have always had a soft spot for this iteration of the story. It is a fun comedy with a great ensemble cast, and it has been a joy seeing the students step into their various roles. I can’t wait to share this with the Mount Vernon community."

The play is set in three acts and follows the Smith family in 1904, according to another MVNU press release. As the World's Fair approaches, it becomes the event of the century for the five Smith children. When they learn about their father's decision to take up a job in New York, they unite to prevent him from moving. The resulting comedy unfolds as they try one disastrous plan after another in hopes of staying in their beloved city.

According to an MVNU press release, the play is based on Sally Benson's book and presented by special arrangement with Dramatic Publishing Inc., adapted by Christopher Sergel.

An MVNU press release provided details about the cast list: Mr. Smith — Alex Pittman; Lon — Nasir Cousin; Tootie — Mallery Thompson; Grandpa Prophater — Zane Menzie; Katie — Kelsey Keppel; Rose — Destiny Fullerton; Esther — Marhin Chismar; Mrs. Waughop — Ashley Farrar; Mrs. Smith — Naomi Painter; Ida — Grace Maddux; Fred — Nick Cline; Agnes — Kara Jenkins; John Shephard — Tyler Maddux; Lucille Pentard — Chloe Hall; Mr. Dodge/Conductor — Josiah Holloway; and Duffy — Ashlynn Scott.

According to an MVNU press release, performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 22, and at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, and Sunday, March 24. The performances will take place in The Thorne Performance Hall located inside the R.R. Hodges Chapel/Fine Arts Building at Mount Vernon Nazarene University, 800 Martinsburg Road, Mount Vernon.

Tickets are priced at $10 for adults and $8 for MVNU students and anyone under 18, according to an MVNU press release. Tickets can be purchased online at theatre.mvnu.edu or at the box office one hour before show time. Seating will open approximately 30 minutes before show time.
