Mayor Jerry Day of the Village of Fredericktown recently delivered the State of the Village address, during which he provided updates on various projects and initiatives. These included the streetscape project, improvements made to the streets last summer, and funds allocated for maintaining the city's fire hydrants.

According to a post on the Village of Fredericktown's Facebook page, Mayor Day stated that the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) is the primary source of funding for these projects. Smith Paving of Norwalk has been awarded a contract worth $1.6 million after submitting a successful bid. The company plans to commence construction in March and aims to complete most of it ahead of the 2024 Fredericktown Tomato Show.

The same Facebook post also revealed details about the 2023 Street Improvement project. Mulberry Street was milled and paved in its entirety, with work extending from High Street to Oak Street, including an older section of Struble Circle. Necessary repairs and rebuilding were carried out on catch basins by Kokosing Construction, who completed the entire project for less than $200,000.

Further information shared on Facebook by the Village indicated that they had secured a grant worth $5,578 from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency. This funding was used for purchasing safety equipment such as a mechanical water main valve and a device for opening and closing fire hydrants. The city currently maintains 185 fire hydrants, all of which were flushed within three weeks.

Finally, another post from the Village disclosed that they had received a grant amounting to $7,196 from the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation. This funding was utilized for procuring inflatable trench shoring equipment. The village staff frequently works in trenches up to 12 feet deep when dealing with water and sewer taps.
