The Centerburg boys’ bowling team has won two out of the last three matches, with Michael Wallace and Jesse Rings leading the charge for the Trojans.
On Jan. 9 the Trojans traveled to Morrow Lanes for a home conference matchup with Mount Gilead. The boys’ team took a 1793-1577 win, led by Wallace with a 369 series and Rings with a score of 331. The girls’ team took a 1534-1304 loss, with Abbie Collier leading with a two game series score of 266. Azala Compton also bowled well with a series score of 229.
Prior to that, the boys’ varsity team took a 1795-1562 conference loss to Fredericktown at Colonial Lanes on Jan. 8. The boys’ JV team also lost 1289-1246 and the girls’ team took a 1762-1524 loss.
On Dec. 29 the Trojans had a non-conference match with Highland, and the boys’ team came away with a 1736-1524 victory. The girls’ team dropped a tight match 1277-1267.
“The boys did a good job of rebounding from the loss at home against Fredericktown on Monday, and they turned around to have a better performance on Tuesday against Mount Gilead,” said Coach Jennifer Purdy. “All of the boys had a pretty good night. Jesse and Michael both had their highest series of the season. The boys finally put together a night when they were all bowling consistent. We are hoping to build on this win as we head into the last part of the season and prepare for the KMAC and sectional tournament.”
Purdy said the girls’ team is having a tough season this year, but they are working to improve their game, and importantly, they have a good time bowling together.
“Abbie is our only senior,” Coach Purdy said. “We have two returning bowlers and four first year bowlers so we are a young team and hoping to learn a lot this season.”
