Slaughter's hot hand gives Quakers blowout win over Rams

Colton Slaughter continues to be scoring at a high rate with a 22 point game to lead the New Philadelphia Quakers to a lopsided 58-27 victory over Madison Comprehensive (1-6, 1-3) on Dec. 22.

Slaughter got the scoring started with a shot from deep, followed by a three ball for Carson Crandall to put the Quakers up 6-0. Up 9-3 with Slaughter hitting another shot from downtown, the Rams had the ball near the hoop looking to chip away at the lead, but Crandall grabbed a steal to take possession. Owen Miller then nailed a three to go up 12-3. The Quakers took a 14-6 after one quarter.

At the beginning of the second quarter, Crandall and Slaughter showed their defensive skills with a steal apiece. It was a 20-8 lead for the Quakers when Reid Wells also recorded a steal. It was a 27-12 lead for New Philadelphia at halftime. Slaughter had 11 points with three makes from beyond the arc. Crandall had two threes for six points. The Rams were led by Will Kepple with seven points.

The third quarter was all New Philadelphia, outscoring the Rams 20-7. Slaughter had eight points and hit a pair of threes. Crandall, Quinn Miller and Owen Miller also had threes for the Quakers. They finished strong with an 11-8 fourth quarter to take the win.

Slaughter had a game high 22 points including six threes, in what was a terrific performance shooting from deep. Crandall had 11 points and Owen Miller added six points on two threes.

Kepple finished with 12 points to lead the Rams.

New Philadelphia had 13 threes in the game and shot 68% from deep. They were 55% from the floor as a team. The Rams shot 35% and 17% from deep. New Philadelphia had a 24-15 rebounding advantage, and also led 13-1 in assists and 8-1 in steals.
