It was a big year for the Centerburg volleyball team, as the team won the Knox Morrow Conference and made to the third round of the OHSAA Division III Central 1 tournament. Now they can add individual accolades to the season resume, as Stella Weisbrod was named KMAC player of the year and Abigail Boudinot was coach of the year.
“Stella will go down in Centerburg Volleyball history as one of the best players to come through our gym,” said Boudinot. “She is not only a great all around player, she is an exceptional person. She is kind, compassionate, and has shown amazing leadership skills. I am so excited to watch her play next year at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.”
Weisbrod had 258 kills this season, along with 57 aces and 235 digs with a hit percentage of 29.7%. Over her career she tallied 830 kills, 149 aces, 936 digs and a 19.9% hit percentage. She was second team All-KMAC her freshman year; first team All-Conference and second team All-District her sophomore year; first team All-Conference and All-District her junior year; and this year was not only player of the year but also first team All-Conference, All-District and the state all star district representative.
“Stella has shown that she is a dominant player in every position that she plays,” Boudinot said. “Her all around technique, volleyball IQ and consistency are just a few factors why Stella is so deserving of player of year.”
Boudinot was humble about being named coach of the year, saying that as a coach awards are not expected but that it was an honor.
“This team is extra special to me, as the seniors were my first freshman here at Centerburg,” said Boudinot. “Seeing those seniors grow in the sport that we all share a love for has been the highlight of the season. As I look to next year, Julia Orndorf, Chesnee Fairall, Molly Kain and Josie Dawes are all returning to varsity. We also have a lot of young talent that will be providing a huge impact as well.”
