Fredericktown spellers set for county bee

FREDERICKTOWN – Four students in grades five through eight will represent Fredericktown Local Schools in the annual Knox County Spelling Bee in January. The winners emerged from recent competition within the district.

Jace Smith correctly spelled “confident” to become the fifth-grade champion in the seventh round. Orin Kettell was runner-up.

The sixth-grade winner is Carsyn Adkins, who correctly spelled “malicious” in the ninth round. Carson Sanchez was runner-up.

Caleb Cobb claimed the seventh-grade title, winning with “innards” in the sixth round. Runner-up was Harrison Kissel.

The eighth-grade title went to Izzy Broerman, who earned the win by spelling “kungfu” after five rounds. Isaiah Dickerson was runner-up.

The Knox County Spelling Bee is facilitated by the Knox Educational Service Center (ESC) with financial support from the Mount Vernon Rotary Club.

The 2024 county bee will be at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 11, in the Mount Vernon High School auditorium. The Knox County commissioners will serve as judges. Taylor Gingery, the ESC’s gifted and talented coordinator, will be the pronouncer.
