Howard – Elizabeth “Betty” K. Hoffman, 95, passed away on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at the Ohio Eastern Star Home in Mount Vernon.

Betty was born in Newark on January 15, 1928 to Oliver J. and Hilda (Kleinfelter) Kelsey. She graduated from St. Francis De Sales High School, Newark Business School, and the Columbus Paraprofessional Institute. On June 23, 1948, she married Phillip R. Hoffman, who preceded her in death on July 1, 2015. She worked with the Ohio Power Company in Newark for over 42 years, and 20 years with the St. Luke Church in Danville.

Betty was a Board member of the Knox County Concert Association, a former two-term Director of the Apple Valley Board, past volunteer with Knox Community Hospital, and a 30 year member of the Licking Memorial Hospital volunteers. In 2000, she received the Volunteer of the Year award from the Knights of Columbus.

She is survived by her son, Todd Hoffman of Howard, daughter, Alana (Dana) Leavitt of Mechanicsburg, grandchildren; Thomas (Betty) Leavitt of Brinkhaven, Tanya Leavitt of Newark, Treana (Jason) Tom of Mechanicsburg, Jasper (Glenda) Leavitt of New Plymouth, and Christine Leavitt of Mechanicsburg, 14 great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren; nieces, Janice (Hugh) McClain, Karen (Jerry) Pratt, and Gwen (Dennis) Kelsey. And numerous great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Alice Payne-Langstaff, brother, Oliver Kelsey, Jr., infant brother, James Francis Kelsey, and brothers-in-law, Kenneth Payne and Charles Langstaff.

A funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 3, at the St. Luke Catholic Church in Danville. Father P.J. Brandimarti will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Luke Cemetery. Visitation will be an hour prior to service time at the church.
