Northmor finished off the regular season with with a 34-7 win over Loudonville, and they relied on a rushing attack fueled by sophomore running back Carson Campbell, who is this week’s Mount Vernon Athlete of the Week.

Campbell is still young in his career as a Golden Knight, and the sophomore tailback put together just about as good a game as one can imagine. He carried the ball 15 times for 222 yards and crossed the goal line four times for rushing scores. He also had a catch for eight yards. Campbell played well on special teams, as well. He was on punting duties and had four attempts for an average of 35.2 yards and a long of 45 yards.

He was the focal point of a running game that amassed a total of 305 rushing yards during what was a rainy, sloppy occasion. This was the first time in Campbell’s career he has had a four touchdown game, and was by far his best game of the season. Campbell is red hot just at the right time with playoff football coming up.

Last week Campbell set the tone in the first quarter, rushing for 16 yards and a score to go up 7-0. He struck again in the first quarter from 42 yards out and then again for an even bigger run of 58 yards for a touchdown. Even in just the first quarter Campbell was putting up numbers most would dream of for a full game, with 116 yards on those three touchdown runs alone. He scored his fourth touchdown in the fourth quarter from 11 yards out to add some security to the already big lead.

Campbell finished the regular season with a team high 906 yards and 12 touchdowns, averaging 90.6 yards per game and 6.6 yards per carry. He had 12 catches for 115 yards and as a punter he had 18 punts for 584 yards- an average of 32.4 yards. On defense he had 13 tackles and an interception.

Congratulations for Carson Campbell on the big week and good luck in the playoffs!
