Knox County Suicide Prevention

Knox County Suicide Prevention Coalition is holding its thirteenth annual 5k/10k walk and run on September 23.  Parking will be available at the Tower and race day packet pickup as well as the start of the race will take place at the Kiwanis Pavilion.  We will also be lighting the tower and having a memorial there to remember our loved ones at 7:30 P.M.  Families and friends may bring a picture to share.  The walk and run event is to help bring suicide awareness to our community, those who have lost a loved one, those who are still suffering, and those who want to remember them. Knox County Symphony Children's Concert 

Presented by Ariel-Foundation Park and the Knox County Symphony Orchestra

Designed with little ones in mind, this one-hour concert event always has a fun theme to engage and delight children. They are encouraged to dance, wiggle, and come to the stage to check out the instruments and maybe even have the opportunity to conduct the orchestra! Once again, the Gund Gallery at Kenyon College will be enhancing the musical experience by providing art activities for the Symphony’s youngest patrons. After the concert, join us for cookies and cider and the opportunity to meet the musicians. Bring your own chair or use one of ours. This event is free to the public!

Math Monday: Adventures of A Fulbrighter

Professor of Mathematics Noah Aydin was on sabbatical last year and spent six months in Algeria as a Fulbright scholar. In this informal presentation, he will talk about his experiences and his adventures there as well as some of his other activities during the past year. He will share some stories and many pictures from Algeria and Morocco.

Free Produce Distribution — Bellville Neighborhood Outreach Center

Need help getting fresh produce?

Bellville Neighborhood Outreach Center will distribute free produce through its Mobile Pantry Program once-a-month from April 2023 - October 2023. The Mobile Pantry Schedule for 2023 is the 4th Monday of each month. This produce distribution is open to the general public.

The produce giveaways take place from 9 AM until 11 AM (or until produce is gone). First come, first served. Line-up begins at 8:30 AM.

Distributions will take place at the Clear Fork Alliance Church parking lot on St. Rt. 97, across from Clear Fork High School. (This location helps us better accommodate coronavirus guidelines.)

Please note that photo I.D. is required. This is a requirement of the Cleveland Food Bank, from whom we receive this free, fresh produce.

Let's Get Personal: Crafting Your Personal Statement

This writing center workshop in Chalmers Library room 302 will take attendees through the important aspects of writing and editing a personal statement. We'll offer advice, share examples, provide suggestions for campus resources and sign you up for a writing center account if you don't have one already so you can meet with a tutor for follow-up appointments. Registration is not required, but questions and registrations can be sent to Writing Center Director Anna Scanlon (she/her) at scanlon1@kenyon.edu. Yoga in the Garden

Yoga at the Preserve 

Kokosing Nature Preserve is excited to host Hot Yoga Escape for their summer outdoor yoga series. HYE will offer a free weekly community yoga class at Kokosing Nature Preserve every Tuesday at 6:30 pm throughout the summer, beginning June 6th. Everyone is welcome!  Class will be held in the mowed lawn in the center of the preserve (halfway down the gravel central path). Just bring a mat and a bottle of water.

Do you have a planner? To-do list? Bullet journal? Would you like to be more organized in terms of due dates, assignments and tests? Have questions about how to read your syllabus? Stop by Chalmers Library every Thursday during Common Hour for a new initiative, Thrive-Through Thursday.

What is it? An opportunity to plan and stay on-track throughout your semester at Kenyon. We'll go over your syllabi, discuss important deadlines and dates and help you plan your semester to help you attain your goals for upcoming projects and papers. Washi tape, markers and stickers will be available.

When is it? Every Thursday classes are in session during Common Hour (11:10 a.m. to 12:10 p.m.).

Where is it? Join us in Chalmers Library 303.

Who is it for? Any student at Kenyon who would like to get the most out of their semester! We'll have representatives from offices across campus including the Center for Global Engagement, Chalmers Library, Student Accessibility and Support Services, Student Affairs, and the Writing Center among others.

Doc Talk: Managing Your Pain: What’s New?

Join us for a free Doc Talk on Tuesday, October 24, from 5 to 6 p.m. Dr. Andrew McNicol will lead a conversation about the currently available treatment options to help manage pain.

This event is open to the community and will be held in the WFMP 2nd Floor Meeting Room. Healthy snacks and beverages will be provided.

In Pain Management, the goal is typically to control pain while also trying to address the underlying condition that is causing pain. Join our Doc Talk titled “Managing Your Pain: What’s New?” to discover how to overcome your pain.

Andrew McNicol, MD, is KCH’s Pain Management Physician. He graduated from Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED), Rootstown, Ohio.
