Velma G. Tschakert, age 92, of Westerville, died in hospice care on Saturday, August 26, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on November 11, 1930, in New Albany to the late Ferdinand and Maude (Strider) Clark. Velma was a graduate of New Albany High School and married her beloved husband Robert “Bob” Tschakert in 1952. Together they shared 67 wonderful years until his sad passing in 2019.
Velma’s life centered on caring for the needs of her family. She was an avid fan of OSU basketball and football. She enjoyed her yearly camping and traveling adventures. Velma was a lifelong attendee of Johnstown Church of Christ in Christian Union. She will be remembered for her love of family and tender ways.
She is survived by daughters, Deborah (Richard) Layman and Vickie (Mark) Gibson all of Mt. Vernon; son, Ronald Tschakert of Westerville; grandchildren, Magaleen (Paul) Ward, Michael (Charlene) Gibson, Dustina Layman, Michelle (Jordan) Elliot, Megan Tschakert; 13 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren with one on the way, sister Jan Speakmon, Francis and June Tschakert as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was also preceded in death by a grandson John Gibson and siblings: Donna Feazel, Erma Butts, and Cloise, Robert, Orin, Chlo Ann, and Howard Clark.
Friends may call from 11:00 – 12:30 PM Saturday, September 2, 2023, at Snyder Funeral Home, DeVore Chapel, 637 N. State Route 61, (at SR 3), Sunbury, where services will follow at 12:30 PM, with Pastor Brian Smith officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Fancher Cemetery.
