MOUNT VERNON – Louis Michael Burcsak, 78, of Mount Vernon, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday evening, Aug. 6, 2023, at home due to complications with leukemia. He was born in Youngstown on April 26, 1945, to the late Louis G. and Mary (Yanchek) Burcsak.

Louis graduated from Struthers High School in 1963, a member of the Chess Club, Rifle Club and National Honor Society. He honorably served his country in the Army during Vietnam and received medals in Nation Defense Service, Vietnam Service and Vietnam Champaign. In March 1973, Louis earned a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Youngstown State University. After college, Louis worked for Owens Corning and ATO Construction. He moved to Mount Vernon in 1980 and worked for Cooper Energy Services and Rolls Royce. He retired from Rolls Royce in 2011. He was a member of Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Louis was a loving and deeply caring husband, father and grandfather. He was married for 50 years to his devoted wife, Dolores, on June 23, 1973. Louis enjoyed Big Band music, WWII history, fishing and spending time with his family.

Louis is survived by his loving wife, Dolores A. (Harding) Burcsak; son, Stephen and daughter-in-law, Janelle; two granddaughters, Emma and Ava Burcsak; sister, Barbara (John) Spano; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Louis was preceded in death by his son, David John Burcsak, on Sept. 30, 2013.

The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 11, at the Snyder Funeral Homes, Flowers Chapel, 619 East High St., Mount Vernon, where a prayer service will follow the visitation.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 12, at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 303 East High St., Mount Vernon, with Rev. Father Mark J. Hammond as the Celebrant. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Mount Vernon, with Military Honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.
