Sandra J. Finnell, 60, of Mount Vernon, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center in Columbus surrounded by her loving family. | Mike Labrum/Unsplash

MOUNT VERNON  – Sandra J. Finnell, 60, of Mount Vernon, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center in Columbus surrounded by her loving family. She was born on Aug. 8, 1962, in Mount Gilead, the daughter of Tom and Tanya (Stuller) Levering. She was a 1980 graduate of Mount Vernon High School and earned an associate degree in business administration from Mount Vernon Nazarene University.

Sandra served as the librarian for East Elementary School in the Mount Vernon City School District for 15 years, where she loved interacting and teaching the kids to read and learn. Sandra will always be remembered for the love and kindness she was constantly giving to her family, friends and children. She spent many days cheering on her kids at the local softball, baseball and soccer fields and most recently enjoyed those same memories with her grandkids. 

Most important to Sandra was her husband, kids, grandkids and family. She adored them and cherished every minute she had with them.

Besides her parents, she is survived by her loving husband of 32 years, Larry Finnell; her children, Lindsay (Tyler) Berger, Haley (Nicholas) Hearn, Renae (Jared) Pryor and Chad (Angela Kladias) Finnell; her grandchildren, Kaeden, Kinslee, Owen and Collin; her siblings, Thomas Levering of Columbus, Darryl (Patti) Levering of Columbus and Debra (Jeremy) Rosario of Delaware.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, May 13, beginning at 5 p.m. at the Lakeholm Church of the Nazarene, 16001 Glen Rd., Mount Vernon, OH 43050, where friends may call from 2 p.m. until the time of service. The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home of Mount Vernon is honored to serve the family of Sandra J. Finnell.

Memorial contributions in her name may be made to the Community Foundation of Mount Vernon and Knox County to be used for the benefit of the East School Library. They can be made at any Park National Bank branch in Mount Vernon.
