Mount Vernon team captures overall runner-up in Winter Academic Challenge League

A junior varsity team from Mount Vernon is the overall runner-up in the recent Winter Academic Challenge League.

According to a press release, the Mount Vernon JV team and the Ashland JV team each won its respective brackets to meet in the finals where the Ashland team emerged victorious. The overall runner-up team from Mt. Vernon was coached by R. Fetters and included students Jason Robbins, Matthew MacDonald, Christopher Hawthorne, Tucker Tooley, and Sarah Hammond.

Hosted by the the Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center (MOESC), the Winter Academic Challenge League is an academic competition where teams of students compete to answer questions in educaitonal topics, including literature, fine arts, geography, history, math and science.

"The level of competition was high for these tournaments, which was matched by the excitement in the building," said Leanna Ferreira, Mid-Ohio ESC's coordinator for Academic Challenge, according to a press release. "Students eagerly reviewed the score sheet as they went to their next round, celebrating their accomplishments and pushing each other to greater success. They were a joy to watch and support."

The Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center works to administer specialized academic and support services to more than 18,000 students in 11 school districts across Crawford, Morrow and Richland counties.
