MOUNT VERNON – Don W. Connell, 92, of Mount Vernon, passed away at his residence on Saturday, April 22, 2023. He was born in Canton on June 4, 1930, to the late Harvey and Rose (Judge) Connell.
After graduating from Mount Vernon High School, Don enlisted in the U.S. Army and was proud of his service to his country. He earned a Bronze Star for his heroism. Once his service was complete, Don joined the Mount Vernon Fire Department. Don and his wife, Helen, owned and operated Connell’s Furniture in Mount Vernon, which they started in 1957. Don was a member of the Mulberry Street United Methodist Church, and he and his wife, Helen, taught Sunday school and were involved in various administrative activities. Don was a treasurer for Hospice of North Central Ohio and also served on the board. He loved to travel with his wife throughout the U.S. and the world. He also enjoyed golfing in his spare time.
He is survived by his children, Don J. (Candie) Connell, Edward (Linda) Connell, Janet (Kenneth) Reynolds; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-granddaughters.
Along with his parents, Don is preceded in death by his wife, Helen D. Connell; a sister, Roberta Depue and a brother, Marvin Connell.
Calling hours were held on Wednesday, April 26, from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service, at noon at the Snyder Funeral Home-Lasater Chapel, 11337 Upper Gilchrist Rd., Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050, and Roger Marra officiated. Burial followed at Mound View Cemetery.
