Mount Vernon 13, Marysville 6

The Mount Vernon Lady Jackets (10- 5, 5-1 in OCC play) used a five-run second inning to distance themselves from the Marysville Monarchs (13-3) en route to a 13-6 win on April 22. Ahead 9-6 after five, MV tacked on four more in the sixth to make it a runaway.

Mount Vernon outhit Marysville 12-10, and played errorless ball in the field, while Marysville committed five errors. Jenna Riley led the Jacket attack with three hits and she was one of five Lady Jackets with 2 RBIs. Brooke Dovenbarger and Rylee Myers each had two hits and three MV players connected for one safety each. Dovenbarger scored three runs. McKenzie Krownapple homered for Mount Vernon.

Fredericktown 4, Highland 1

Jesenia Montalvo had a three-hit day in leading the Fredericktown softball team (5-13, 1-9) to a 4-1 win over Highland  (7-8, 5-3), on April 21. 

Fredericktown scored a run in the first and added a run in the second, but Highland cut the lead to one in the sixth with a run of their own. The Freddies tacked on a pair of runs in the seventh inning and were able to hold on for the win.

The Freddies had eight hits in the win, led by Montalvo who went 3-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI. Sierra Rine went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Freddies. Also picking up an RBI was Kelsey Bell, who was 1-for-3 with a run scored.

The Fighting Scots scattered eight hits in the game. They were led by Guinevere Jackson, who was 2-for-4 with a triple and a run scored. Abby Jordan and Aubree Bellamy were 1-for-3 with a double. Stevie Asher was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Picking up the win was Riley Rine, who went 6.1 innings allowing nine hits, one earned run, and one walk, while striking out four. Stevie Asher took the loss throwing seven innings allowing three earned runs on eight hits, two walks, and four strikeouts.

Centerburg 7, East Knox 2

Freshman Abby Herren showed off her batting skills against East Knox (10-4, 3-4) on April 21, smashing a homer and piling on four RBIs in a 7-2 win for the Centerburg Trojans (15-2, 7-0).

The Trojans jumped out to a 6-1 lead with a pair of runs in the first and four runs in the second, with East Knox scoring once in the second. Centerburg added another run in the fifth to go up 7-1, and the Bulldogs scored their second run in the sixth inning.

The Trojans had 12 hits in the win. Herren was 2-for-4 with a double and a home run while scoring once and knocking in four runs. Alyssa Harris also had a big day with a 3-for-3 game at the plate, and a run scored. Kayla Ferrell went 1-for-4 with two runs scored and Chesnee Fairall was 3-for-4 with an RBI.

East Knox was led by Shanda Melick, who was 2-for-3 with a double and a steal. Natalie Smith homered in the game, going 1-for-3. EK had five total hits on the day.

Shelby Morris picked up the victory for Centerburg, going seven strong innings, allowing only one earned run, five hits and two walks while striking out eight. 

Maddy Cotsamire took a loss going five innings, allowing six earned runs, two walks and 11 hits, with four strikeouts.

Northmor 16, Bucyrus 10

Northmor’s Maddie Simpson and Mahaila Strobel brought their “A” games against Bucyrus (0-6, 0-3), displaying their power with extra-base hits in a 16-10 win for the Golden Knights (6-5, 4-4).

Northmor scored three runs in the first, five runs in the second, a run in the third and two runs in the fourth to go up 11-0. Bucyrus scored three runs in the fifth and Northmor tacked on a run in their half, making it a 12-3 game. While the Redmen made a run in the seventh with seven runs, the Golden Knights scored four runs of their own and were able to hold onto the win in a high-scoring battle.

Strobel was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs to lead the Golden Knights. Simpson was 3-for-4 with a triple, two doubles, an RBI and two runs scored. Emily Zeger also had a 3-for-4 day with a double and a pair of RBIs. Lexi See was 2-for-4 with both hits being triples. Saje Miley was 1-for-1 with an RBI double. Maddie May also hit a double, going 1-for-1. The Golden Knights had nine hits on the day.

Kate Kissling was the winning pitcher, throwing six innings with no runs allowed, three hits and three strikeouts. 

Danville 4, Fredericktown 1

Danville (12-4, 6-3) continued their strong play against Fredericktown (5-13, 1-9) on April 20, with the Blue Devils getting solid production at the plate by Addison Mickley in a 4-1 win.

Danville had put three runs on the board in the second inning, but the Freddies countered with a run in the third to make it a 3-1 game. That would be all the Fredericktown squad could muster, however, and Danville scored one more run in the seventh to take the three-run victory.

Mickley was 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, an RBI and a run to lead the Blue Devils. Abi Sapp had a 1-for-3 day with a double, a pair of RBIs and a run scored. Ruby Bartok was 1-for-3 with a run. The Blue Devils connected for seven hits in the win.

Addy Brock was the winning pitcher going all seven innings, allowing one earned run and striking out four.

Six Lady Freddies had hits, with Chloe Wells connecting for two. Jessenia Montalvo had the team's only extra-base-hit, a double, and scored Fredericktown's only run

Loudonville 35, Mount Gilead 6

Loudonville (12-3, 3-0) is a scoring machine, and the Redbirds put it in full gear against Mount Gilead (4-14, 0-8) on April 20, with the Redbirds, revving up for 35 runs and 35 hits against the Indians, taking a 35-6 win. Loudonville scored in double digits for five games in a row and it was their third straight game with 20 or more runs. They have outscored their opponents 226-69 so far this season.

In this one, Loudonville scored 17 first-inning runs and never looked back. They also scored a run in the second and then exploded for 10 more runs in the third inning, six runs in the fourth inning and a run in the fifth. The Indians scored two times in the third inning and four times in the fourth inning. 

Mount Gilead had nine hits in the game, led by Lindsey Ayers who went 3-for-3 with two doubles and four RBIs. Kierra Main was 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Lillian Ward was 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run.

Greer Simpson, who is leading the KMAC in hitting with a .605 batting average, was 2-for-3 with a double. Simpson is also second in hits with 26 and first in slugging, at 1.069.

Loudonville, who will be joining the KMAC in 2024, had nine players with multiple hits. Goldie Layton and Carlee Young each connected for five hits and Olyvia Fenton, Kareena Burgess, Alesha Felix and Maddie Kline each had four. Layton, Burgess and Payton Vansickle each homered and Layton finished with seven RBIs.

Northmor 6, Cardington-Lincoln 4

Northmor (7-7, 4-6) took on KMAC rival Cardington-Lincoln (12-4, 6-3), and thanks to a clutch four-run sixth inning, the Golden Knights were able to come from behind to take a 6-4 win.

The Golden Knights scored a run in the second inning to go up 1-0, but the Pirates tied it up with a run in the third inning. In the fifth inning, Northmor scored a run and the Pirates scored three times to take a 4-2 lead. Northmor then battled back in the sixth inning to take the two-run victory.

Northmor tallied nine hits in the win, led by Taylor Cantrell, who was 3-for-3 with a pair of RBIs and a pair of doubles. Emily Zeger was 2-for-4 with a double and a triple in the win. Maddie Simpson went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Raelyn Fulk had a pair of RBIs and a double, in a 1-for-3 day.

Kate Kissling got the win with a complete game three-hitter, with no earned runs allowed, one walk and four strikeouts.
