Northmor 6, Cardington-Lincoln 4

Northmor (6-4, 4-3) got a big day at the plate from Taylor Cantrell to secure a comeback win over Cardington-Lincoln (5-5, 4-1) by a score of 6-4 on April 17.

Northmor had a one-run lead after two innings, but the Pirates tied it up in the third inning. In the fifth inning, Cardington-Lincoln tacked on three runs and the Golden Knights scored one to make it a 4-2 game. The game was decided in the sixth inning, tied at 4-4, when Lady Knight Raelyn Fulk doubled, driving in two runs to cap off a four-run inning and secure the win.

Northmor had nine hits, led by Cantrell, who was 3-for-3, with a double, a homer, two RBIs and two runs. Emily Zeger also had a solid day at the plate, going 2-for-4, with a double and a triple to go with a run scored. Maddie Simpson also had a multi-hit day, going 2-for-4 with an RBI. Fulk had a double on a 1-for-3 day with two RBIs.

Cardington-Lincoln only connected for three hits, led by Genevieve Longsdorf who went 1-for-4 with an RBI. Ari Simpson was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk. Ava Davis had the other hit going 1-for-4. Myleigh Bishop had an RBI in the game.

Kate Kissling got the win for Northmor, throwing all seven innings, allowing three hits and four unearned runs, while walking one and striking out four. Longsdorf took the loss, in a complete game with nine hits and six earned runs allowed, but finished with 16 strikouts.

Lucas 17, Mount Gilead 5

Greer Simpson was a force at the plate for Mount Gilead (4-12, 0-7) with a three-hit afternoon, but it wasn’t enough to get by Lucas (1-4, 0-1) who jumped out to a big seven-run lead in the first inning and cruised to a 17-5 win over the Indians on April 18.

Lucas went up 7-2 in the first inning and each team scored a run in the second to make it an 8-3 lead for the Cubs. Lucas then scored four times in the third inning to go up 12-3. While Mount Gilead scored a run in the fourth, the Cubs scored twice as well and it was 14-4  after four innings. The Indians scored a run in the fifth inning, but Lucas scored three insurance runs to take a 12-run victory. 

The Indians were led by Simpson, who went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a pair of runs. Emily Mattix had a double for the only extra base hit out of the 12 hits for the Indians, going 1-for-4 with a run. Lillian Ward went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Lindsey Ayers was 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Savannah Wilt also had a sold day going 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Mount Vernon 12, Madison Comprehensive 11

Mount Vernon (9-3, 5-0) came from behind with six runs in the bottom of the seventh to eke out a 12-11 win over Madison Comprehensive (10-2, 5-2) on April 18.

The Rams had a 3-0 lead after one inning and Mount Vernon got on the board in the second to make it a 3-1 game. Madison Comprehensive scored three more runs and Mount Vernon scored one in the third, making it 6-2. The Rams scored a run in the fifth while Mount Vernon scored two to make it 7-4, and then both teams scored a run in the sixth putting the Rams up 8-5. In the top of the sixth the Rams put a three spot on the board.

Down 11-6 in the bottom of the seventh, McKenzie Krownapple homered to left on a 1-1 pitch, to start the rally.  An error, followed by singles by Hailey Rudrick and Brooke Dovenbarger  made it 11-8. Meredith Jones doubled to make it 11-10. Grace Bates singled, and a sac fly by Kiannah Harris tied the game at 11. A one-out bunt single by Kennedi Endsley put runners at first and second and Carly Kennedy drove a line drive single to right on a 1-0 pitch to drive in Bates with  the winning run.

Mount Vernon piled on 15 hits in the come-from-behind win. Rudrick connected for four hits, two RBIs and three runs. Endsley, Jones and Bates each had two hits. Homering for the Lady Jackets were Bates, Rudrick and Krownapple.

Addi Parker pitched a complete game and struck out five for the win.

Danville 4, Northmor 1

Grace Gronberg was on fire in the pitching circle on April 19 against Northmor (6-4, 4-3), tossing a gem in a 4-1 win for Danville (10-5, 4-4) on April 19.

Northmor started with a first-inning run on an RBI double by Maddie Simpson, but then Danville scored a run in the third to tie things up. In the fourth inning, the Blue Devils took the lead when Gronberg drilled an RBI single on a 1-0 count to go up 2-1. Danville scored a run in the sixth and also the seventh for a pair of insurance runs to secure the win.

Gronberg held the Golden Knights to four hits and one earned run in a complete game, striking out nine and only walking one batter.

Leading the offense was Jaylyn Smith, who tripled and went 2-for-4. Addison Mickley also had a 2-for-4 day, smashing a double. Gronberg helped her own cause going 1-for-4 with an RBI. Broegan Staats also had an RBI in the win.

Northmor was led by Simpson, who went 2-for-3 with an RBI double. Kate Kissling and Lexi See each went 1-for-3.

Shelby Cooper took a loss despite pitching well, going 5.2 innings allowing three earned runs on eight hits, while striking out two and walking two.

Highland 3, Shelby 1

A pitcher's duel between Highland’s (6-7, 5-3) Stevie Asher and Lexi Booker of Shelby (10-7, 8-1) ended with Lady Scot ace prevailing, allowing only one earned run in a tight 3-1 win on April 19.

Shelby got on the board first with a run in the third inning, but Highland tied the game in the fourth inning before scoring twice in the sixth inning to take the two-run victory. 

Highland had only three hits in the game, all singles, by Abby Jordan, Aubree Bellamy and Kate Clements. Bellamy scored two runs in the win, while also stealing a pair of bases. Kelsey Munday scored the other run. Brianna Tuggle also swiped a bag.

Asher pitched all seven innings allowing six hits and one earned run, while striking out six and walking two batters. Booker also pitched a complete game with three runs allowed, but none of them earned. She walked six batters in the game and struck out five.

East Knox 10, Fredericktown 7

In a KMAC battle April 18, East Knox (10-2, 3-2) topped Fredericktown (3-12, 0-8), as Natalie Smith made her offense count for the Bulldogs, knocking in three runs to lead EK to a 10-7 win.

The Freddies started the game with a 3-0 lead in the top half of the first, but East Knox scored a run in the bottom half of the inning, followed by a four run second to go up 5-3. Fredericktown cut the lead to one in the third, but the Bulldogs responded with four runs in the fourth inning. The Freddies scored a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth, but East Knox added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth and took the win.

Every batter in the lineup had at least one hit for the Bulldogs. Smith went 1-for-4 but made the most out of her hit with three RBIs. She also scored a run. Baylee Comer went 2-for-4 and had the lone extra base hit with a double. She also scored twice. Gracie Sheasby also had a 2-for-4 day with a run and an RBI. Hannah McCoy had a 1-for-3 day with an RBI and two runs and Shanda Melick also scored two runs while going 1-for-4.

Picking up the win was Maddy Cotsamire going seven innings allowing seven runs, but only one of them earned. She struck out four batters and walked none.
