HILLIARD – Gary Prushing, 76, of Hilliard passed away surrounded by his family at Doctors West Hospital in Columbus on March 20, 2023, from complications of several strokes.

Gary was a man of deep faith and managed his illnesses with peace, strength and grace.

He was born on Sept. 15, 1946, in Mount Vernon and was the son of Dr. LeRoy and Mary Alice Prushing. Gary graduated from Mount Vernon High School and from Franklin University. He had worked at Flexible and Sanoh of America.

Gary was an Army veteran.

Gary and his wife Leona recently moved to Hilliard after living on his farm, where he enjoyed being outdoors with his dog Maggie by his side. He also enjoyed boarding horses, cutting wood, walking through his woods, and watching birds, deer and turkeys. He was a member of the Alpine Hiking Club and Apple Valley, where he enjoyed boating and waterskiing. Gary also liked to snow ski at various resorts. He also was a collector of antique cars and showed them at car shows.

He is survived by his wife, Leona; two daughters, Sandra (Jason) Boone and Kimberly (Paul) Bricker; grandchildren, Quincey, Marley, Willow, Ceejay and Emmett; two stepchildren, Greg Kendig and Debi (Aaron) Hampton; step-grandchildren, Nicole, Nathan and Noelle; and a sister, Jenny Sutcliffe.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 31, from 5-7 p.m. at Snyder Funeral Home – Lasater Chapel, 11337 Upper Gilchrist Road in Mount Vernon. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 1, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial with military graveside honors will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.
