MOUNT VERNON – A funeral service for Freda Mae Farmer, 99, of Mount Vernon will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 17, at Law-Baker Funeral Home, 34 N. Main St., Utica, with Joel Cassetto officiating. Burial will follow at Bell Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the service.

Freda passed away on Feb. 13, 2023, at Country Club Rehabilitation in Mount Vernon. She was born on Aug. 17, 1923, in Knox County to the late Clarence and Grace (Bell) Farmer.

Freda graduated from Utica High School in 1940. Later she graduated from Cleveland Bible College (now Malone), Indiana Wesleyan University and Ball State Teachers College in Indiana. She was a member of the Community Wesleyan Church in Newark for many years.     

In 1942, God gave her new spiritual life. This resulted in missionary service in Taiwan and Indonesia for 36 years. She worked several years in Taiwan with the Friends Mission, and her last 12 years in Indonesia were with her Wesleyan Church Mission. She retired in 1990.

She is survived by her nieces, Betty Tiebout, Charlotte (Rick) Norris and Nancy (Dale) Sapp; nephew, Robert (Beverly) Webster; many great-nieces and nephews; and great-great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers, Clarence Oliver Farmer and Dwight Farmer; sisters, Helen Hunt and Edith Webster; baby sister, Catherine Farmer; nephews, Cecil Hunt, Owen Farmer and Gerald Farmer; great-niece, Vicki Tiebout; great-nephew, Michael Farmer; and great-great-nephew, Nicolas Tiebout.
