FREDERICKTOWN – Four Fredericktown students in grades five through eight have qualified for the Knox County Spelling Bee on Jan. 12.
The 7 p.m. public program in the Mount Vernon High School auditorium also will include students from Centerburg, Danville, East Knox and Mount Vernon public schools.
Fredericktown’s fifth-grade champion is Carsyn Adkins, who correctly spelled “Angola” in the 11th round. Runner-up was Torilynn Abrams.
Caleb Cobb took the sixth-grade title by spelling “canid” in the 12th round. Jacob Kalmon was the runner-up.
The seventh-grade title went to Izzy Broerman, who correctly spelled “churned” in the fifth round. Dane Jacke was runner-up.
Vince Lavin emerged as the eighth-grade winner after 15 rounds by spelling “pomade.” Cooper Rine was the runner-up.
The Knox County Spelling Bee is facilitated by the Knox Educational Service Center with financial support from the Mount Vernon Rotary Club.
Taylor Gingery, the ESC’s gifted and talented coordinator, will be the pronouncer. The Knox County commissioners will serve as judges.
