The Centerburg girls’ basketball team is coming off a tough season in which the Trojans went 2-21 overall, and 0-12 in KMAC play, putting them in last place in the conference. Coach Bo Glenn hopes that this season will be a turnaround for his squad with another year of experience, and the team has a mantra of “It’s Time” heading into the season.
“We would like to think we can compete for a league championship,” Glenn said. “If our locker room is in check we should be able to. The players believe, 'It's time.' One of our big games, which we will focus on to compete, is at Mount Vernon Nazarene against Cardington Dec. 22 at 6:30 p.m."
The Trojans are returning six letter winners this season under the helm of Glenn, who is now in his fifth season as a coach, all taking place with Centerburg. He said the goal is not to run an actual system with his team, but rather to teach them the ins and outs of the game. He said there is a concern that the team is still young in key positions, but said a year more of experience should help the team’s offense.
“We are a year older and we should be able to shoot the ball better,” Glenn said.
Defensively, Glenn said he has always been a man-to-man guy as it is easier for the team to be able to box out and rebound. He said the team needs to work on its defensive rebounding as a group, but a strength is the effort and willingness to get stops and run in transition.
Lady Trojans to watch this season include Clara Johnson, Kennedi Glenn and Kayla Larimore, who was All-Conference honorable mention last year.
“All three of them had a great summer,” Glenn said.
The Trojans host Columbus Academy on Nov. 12 at 11 a.m. A full schedule of games can be found on the team’s athletic website, centerburgtrojansathletics.org.
