MOUNT VERNON – City Council held a special meeting on Monday, Sept. 19, to advance ordinances and resolutions, approving only appointments to the Mount Vernon Municipal Planning Commission and the transfer of several funds.

Eric Diehl and Todd Hawkins, who both have been alternates on the Planning Commission, were reappointed by City Council.

Auditor Terry Scott explained why the city needed to transfer $77,000 from one water plant account to another, and why the Law Director’s Office needed a $15,000 fund transfer.

The funds for the water treatment plant will cover the remaining funding needs for an ongoing project for the wastewater treatment plan. Law Director Rob Broeren had requested $15,000 to fund outside counsel for litigation involving the city, Scott said.

Council members also requested more than 1 hour’s worth of committee meetings. These meetings on Sept. 26 will begin at 5:10 p.m. and include the proposed Stump/Northview residential public improvement project, which they heard from Scott at their Sept. 12 meeting that the city did not have enough funds to start.

Other committee meeting topics include the purchase of a quicklime storage silo and slaker system for the water treatment plant, the creation of an energy special improvement district, compensation for the Human Resources director and a development plan for Cooper Progress Park.
