MOUNT VERNON – The Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over national enforcement mobilization will be in effect across the U.S. from Aug. 17 to Sep. 5, 2022. Impaired driving is one of the deadliest and most often committed crimes, although it is preventable.
“Impaired driving can be avoided by planning a sober ride home or designating a sober driver,” said Elisa Frazee, Knox Public Health’s Safe Communities Coordinator.
Impaired driving has impacted many Knox County residents. So far in 2022, Knox County has had six traffic fatalities, with two of them being caused by an impaired driver. In the past five years, the deadliest year for impaired driving in Knox County was 2018 where out of 12 fatal traffic accidents, seven of them were caused by an impaired driver.
“We need motorists to commit to keeping our roads safe by planning ahead to designate a sober driver,” said Lieutenant Coby Holloway from the Mount Gilead Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. “Please don’t risk your life or the lives of others by getting behind the wheel impaired.”
