MOUNT VERNON – James Warren Roeder died peacefully July 5, 2022, in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, having just celebrated his 99th birthday on June 3.

Born the youngest of nine in Lima, Ohio, to Michael and Mary Early Roeder, Jim graduated high school and joined the Marine Corps in 1943. There he became an aircraft electrician serving five months in the South Pacific and was honorably discharged as Staff Sargent in May 1946. The following year he married his first wife, Evelyn, who bore three sons: Michael, Steven, and Kurt. Jim graduated with a BS in Mechanical Engineering from OSU and joined Cooper Bessemer in Mount Vernon in 1952 from which he retired in 1984. Jim's second wife of 59 years, Jane, recently died in February. Together, while both worked at Cooper's, they enjoyed running their 300-acre farm raising 100 head of cattle. Somehow in their spare time they managed to build a new house on the farm, join bowling leagues, restore Alfa Romeo sports cars, create home crafts, care for their Weimaraners, vegetable garden, build a second house on the farm, and maintain a winter home in Florida.

Jim is survived by two sons, Michael (Ann) and Kurt (Nancy), a step-daughter Chris, five grandsons and a granddaughter and four great-grandchildren.

Submitted by loving sons Michael J. Roeder and Thomas Kurt Roeder.
