LEXINGTON, Ky. – The honor roll wagon for Kenyon College athletes rolls on, as the Owls' volleyball team joins other school athletic programs in being recognized for academic achievement.
Earlier this week, the Kenyon men's and women's tennis squads were recognized for scholastic achievement, and volleyball joins the award parade.
American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced this week that the Kenyon College Owls once again were the recipient of the United States Marine Corps/AVCA Team Academic Award. Additionally, the Owls were named to the Team Academic Honor Roll, awarded to the programs within the top-20 percent of grade point averages from each AVCA award division.
The Team Academic Award, which was initiated following the 1992-93 season, honors programs that displayed excellence in the classroom during the academic year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
The 2021 Kenyon Owls, which had a roster of 14 players, posted a 3.76 team grade point average. That mark not only included the Owls among the Team Academic Award recipients but also made them just one of 43 NCAA Division III teams to make the AVCA Team Academic Honor Roll.
For five consecutive seasons, the Kenyon women won the AVCA Team Academic Award and, in that same span, three times made the AVCA Team Academic Honor Roll.
