MOUNT VERNON –  Barbara Ann Chadwick died June 11, 2022, surrounded by her children, after a long illness. She was born June 17, 1936, in Mount Vernon to George and Doris (Meckstroth) McDermott, who preceded her in death, as did a brother, Charles.

She was married to Dwight Chadwick, who died in 2006, and is survived by their children Pamela (Ed) Foster, Douglas (Susie) and David; grandchildren Douglas, Jr. (Angela), Jessica (Brent Zimmerman), Courtney Peters (Shannon), Drew Foster (Jessica), Lee Foster (Sharley) and Scott Foster (Melissa); 12 great grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter.

A graduate of Mount Vernon Senior High School, Barbara was a registered nurse and received her bachelor of science degree from what is now known as Washington Adventist University  in Washington, D.C. Barbara’s nursing career began at Mercy Hospital in Mount Vernon, and she worked 30 years at the Mount Vernon Developmental Center where she retired as director of nursing in 1991.

A lover of travel and fiercely loyal to family and friends, Barbara’s greatest joy was being a grandmother.

A memorial service will take place Friday, June 17, at 11:30 a.m., followed by lunch at Lasater Chapel, 11337 Upper Gilchrist Road, Mount Vernon. A private interment will take place later at Mound View Cemetery next to Barbara’s parents and husband.

In honor of our mother’s support of numerous charities, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Charity of choice.
