Coming soon on July 23-30 is the Knox County Fair. On Monday, July 26, is the Knox County Fair Horticulture Flower Show, and on Thursday, July 28, is the Knox County Fair, Artistic Flower Show.

Those who have visited either of these two shows and thought, "I would like to enter but I do not know how to enter," or "I do not understand the guidelines," or "I have better horticulture but I do not know how to exhibit it properly," or "I could make a better artistic design but I do not understand the description or know how to put it together," can attend either or both of two workshops planned by the Knox County Garden Clubs with Jo Ann Graham and Audrey Spearman. The workshops are open to any adult or junior garden member, Master Gardeners, 4-H Club members and any adult or junior planning to enter the Knox County Fair Horticulture and Artistic Shows.

Schedules are available on the Knox County Fair website KnoxCountyFair.org. Tap on more and go to Fair Premium Book, Open Flower Show. It may or may not allow users to print it. Or email j.graham@embarqmail.com.

Workshop for Knox County Fair Artistic Flower Show – Wednesday, July 6, at 9 a.m. at Apple Valley Club House. Jo Ann Graham and Audrey Spearman will give tips on entering the Knox County Fair Artistic Flower Show. They will explain schedule, give tips of entering, tips on mechanics, demonstrate a design and answer questions.

Participants are asked to chose one or two artistic designs (Sections A or B) on the Knox County Fair Schedule for the Artistic Show, Thursday, July 28, they are considering entering to make during the workshop. Each participant needs to bring a container(s) with soaked oasis (flower foam) or a needle point to hold plant material including flowers, greens and, if needed, line material or accessories.

Design or designs will be made by the participant with help or advice from Jo Ann and Audrey. They will be critiqued with helpful suggestions made by all attending. There will be time to ask questions on the schedule. Participants are welcome to bring ideas for additional designs they are thinking of making, suitable containers, line material, or accessories.

This is an opportunity to ask for suggestions and help with designs.

Workshop for Knox County Fair Horticulture Flower Show – Monday, July 11, 9 a.m. at Apple Valley Club House. Jo Ann Graham and Audrey Spearman will give tips on entering the Knox County Fair Horticulture Flower Show. They will go over the rules and guidelines for showing cut flowers, annuals, perennials, roses, dahlias, glads, herbs, hostas, container grown plants, and vegetables that are on the schedule.

Hopefully participants and advisers can bring examples of many to show how to groom and display. If participants have examples of these in their garden and would like to bring to learn how to groom and prepare for the show that would be helpful. It may be early for some of these and maybe participants do not want to cut this close to the fair. We will do the best we can with what is available. This gives participants a chance to ask questions and how to improve their exhibits to win that blue ribbon.

This is an opportunity to learn proper grooming and rules for showing all types of horticulture. This again is to be a learning experience.

If more information is needed and questions, contact Jo Ann Graham at j.graham@embarqmail.com.
