GAMBIER – Margaret B. Clor, a radiant light of empathy and passion, was surrounded by family when she passed away peacefully at Kobacker House on Saturday, June 4, 2022, after a brief illness. She was 84.

A longtime resident of Gambier, she touched many lives in many ways and was a vital member of both the Kenyon College and Knox County communities.

Margaret reveled in the works of the great composers, delighted in food, wine and conversation, and had an abiding love of plants and flowers. But nothing brought her more joy than helping others and spending time with family and friends.

She was active for many years with the Knox County Board of Elections (Gambier precinct), the American Red Cross of Knox County, and the New Directions Domestic Abuse Shelter and Rape Crisis Center.

Margaret was born June 9, 1937, in Chicago, Ill., to the late Gerrit and Edith (Bessey) Hyink. She is survived by two daughters, Kate (Aaron) Portzline of Newark and Laura (Ben Davidson) Clor of Vancouver, Wash.; a granddaughter, Grace Portzline; and two sisters, Toni Knight of Canyon Lake, Texas, and Dori Palm of Montello, Wisc.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Harry M. Clor.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 14, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Snyder Funeral Home, Lasater Chapel, 11337 Upper Gilchrist Road in Mount Vernon.
