MOUNT VERNON – Ann C. Auskings, 92, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 18, 2022, surrounded by her children at Ohio Eastern Star Home. Ann was born on July 22, 1929, in Mount Vernon to Charles M. and Mary Bernice Pettit Clark. She was a 1947 graduate of Mount Vernon High School. Ann was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Milton B. Auskings, in 1996 and her six siblings, Ralph Clark, Margaret Thrush, Samuel Clark, Mildred Ewalt, John Clark and Jane Parker.
Ann started working as a secretary at what was originally Shelmar in Mount Vernon. She worked her way up the corporate ladder over 39 years as the company transitioned to Continental Can, Ludlow Flexible Packaging and finally retiring at American National Can. She was the first salaried female employee within the company. Ann was a volunteer at Knox Community Hospital with over 10,000 volunteer hours and was proud of her service to the American Red Cross. For several years, she assisted with hot meals at Gay Street Methodist Church, where she was a lifetime member. Ann was extremely creative and artistic. She loved traveling, animals, playing cards, attending Little League games and golfing. A few months before her stroke in 2011, Ann had a hole in one at Tomahawk Golf Course.
She is survived by her three children, Philip Auskings of Mount Vernon, OH, Judi Andrews of The Villages, FL, and Wendy Fairchild of Savannah, GA; four grandsons, Michael Auskings, Kevin Auskings, Justin Fairchild and Jared Fairchild; and four great grandchildren, Coralyn, Willie, Jim and Jake.
The family would like to thank the amazing staff at Ohio Eastern Star for the loving care given over the last 11 years and Capital City Hospice for their compassionate end of life assistance.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, May 23, at 1 p.m. at Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 East High St., Mount Vernon. A Celebration of Life ceremony will immediately follow at 2 p.m. Private family burial will be held at a later date.
