MANSFIELD – Organizations around Richland County will open their doors for an annual celebration of history on RichHistory Weekend, May 7-8.
RichHistory Alliance members offer special events and activities on the first full weekend in May each year. This year’s events include the wide-ranging outdoor activities Pleasant Hill Lake Park is known for, a first peek at the new Shelby Cycle Historical Society’s offerings, walks, speakers, open houses and events at a dozen member locations.
The library offers “Hunt for History” scavenger hunts for kids at all branches and an introduction to the resources of the Sherman Room. Kyle Von Kamp, the teacher who has inspired 17 years of Revolutionary War reenactment by Willard school kids, will speak at the Plymouth Museum. The Mansfield Memorial Museum features over 257 Westinghouse small appliances, plus photos, banners, store displays and prototypes.
Big House tours and a barn dance at Malabar, a history walk at Dayspring, a pop-up streetcar museum at Oak Hill, Downtown Mansfield’s Secret City Tour, and some children’s activities at the Lucas Community Center are a sampling of other activities.
All events can be found at https://richhistory.org/richhistoryweekend/. Several events require registration through the website.
