MOUNT VERNON – Janice Kunkel, 82, of Mount Vernon passed away on Sunday, April 17, 2022, at Knox Community Hospital.

She was born on March 3, 1940, in Mount Vernon and was the daughter of the late Searl and Neva (Ryan) Wilkin. She graduated from Utica High School in 1958.

She retired in 2005 from Friendly’s restaurant, where she worked as the bookkeeper for several years. Prior to moving back to Ohio, she worked at Hale Makua in Hawaii from 1981-1993.

After retirement, Janice spent time catching up on her favorite pastime, reading. She was an avid "Survivor" fan and up until her illness had never missed an episode.

She loved spending time with her daughters and grandsons, whom she saw frequently.

Janice is survived by her daughters, Kathy (Jeff) Needles of Mount Vernon and Diana (Arturo) Tolentino of Hawaii; son, Steven Harper of Fort Wayne, Ind.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two stepsons, Tim (Connie) Kunkel of Mount Vernon and John (Billie) Kunkel of Howard.

She is preceded in death by her brother, Ronald Wilkin; and a stepson, Kevin Kunkel.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 22, from 6 - 8 p.m. at Snyder Funeral Home – Lasater Chapel, 11337 Upper Gilchrist Road in Mount Vernon, where funeral services will be held on Saturday starting at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Martinsburg Methodist Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the funeral home to help with the funeral expenses.
