Lady Pirates no-hit Bulldogs in 12-0 rout

All of the offense came from the Cardington-Lincoln softball squad on April 12, as the Lady Pirates connected for 12 hits and 12 runs, and C-L pitchers Genevieve Longsdorf and Ari Simpson combined to no-hit East Knox.

C-L started slowly with a run in the first on a double by Dana Bertke, a passed ball and a ground out. They added three in the second on three doubles and a single and made it a runaway with six in the third on four singles, a hit batter, an error and a triple by Bertke. They tacked on two more in the fourth. In the circle, Longsdorf pitched four no-hit innings, walking one and striking out seven, and Simpson finished up with a spotless fifth, striking out one.

At the plate, eight Lady Pirates hit safely, with Bertke, Simpson, Abbi Hardwick and Kayleigh Ufferman each connecting for two hits. Bertke’s hits were a double and a triple, as were Hardwick’s, and Mac Linkous slammed a double and finished with three RBIs. Natalie Smith was EK’s only base-runner, reaching on a walk in the first inning. The final 13 Lady Bulldogs were retired in a row by Longsdorf and Simpson.

Cardington-Lincoln improved to 8-0 (4-0 KMAC), and East Knox fell to 2-3 (0-2 KMAC)

Lady Blue Devils use big third to tame Black Bears 11-0

The Danville softball team broke open a 2-0 game with an eight-run outburst in the third to take down River View 11-0, moving to 4-1 on the season.

Danville put two on the board in the bottom of the first after Lady Devil pitcher Grace Gronberg induced all three River View hitters to ground out. Keaura Shilling led off the bottom of the first with a single and scored on a error. Alicia Humphrey then drove in a run with an RBI single to make it 2-0.

Gronberg struck out the side in the top of the third, and Danville went to work offensively. Shilling again led off with a single and stole second. Addison Mickley reached for the second time on an error and again scored Shilling. Humphrey singled, and Taryn Mickley followed with a home run to left. Gronberg doubled to center and, after two went down, Emily Weckesser singled, Jaylyn Smith singled and Shilling got her second hit of the inning – and third of the game – with an RBI-double to center. By the time the inning ended, it was 10-0 Danville.

Danville outhit the bears 10-2 as six Lady Devils connected for hits. Shilling went 3-for-3, and Humphrey and Taryn Mickley each had two hits. Gronberg went all the way, pitching five innings, allowing two hits no walks and striking out nine.

Paced by two home runs by Kiannah Harris, the Mount Vernon Lady Jackets moved to 8-1 and 3-0 OCC with a convincing 17-5 thrashing of the Madison Comprehensive Lady Rams, 17-5, April 12.

Scoring in every inning, the Lady Jackets put up three in the first and led 4-0 after two and 9-3 after three to coast to the win. They tacked six more on in the fifth to seal the runaway.

The Lady Jackets used two walks, a single a sacrifice bunt and three more singles to take a three-run lead after one, four hits to take a six-run lead in the third, home runs by Emma Calkins and Harris in the fourth and then a five-run rally, ending on Harris’ second  blast to make it a rout in the fifth.

Mount Vernon outhit Madison 16-8 and fielded cleanly, with no errors to five for the Rams. Eight Lady Jackets got hits, led by Harris with three hits and four RBIs.
