MOUNT VERNON – HopeNow Furniture Bank (HNFB), the local nonprofit dedicated to providing household goods to those in Knox County struggling to furnish their own homes due to poverty and other challenging life experiences, has urgent need for supplies to distribute.

Currently, it is in need of small appliances such as coffee pots, toasters and mixers. There is also a need for silverware, microwavable dishware, bath towels and bed sheets in all sizes.

HopeNow can always use donations of beds, mattresses and box springs in the twin, queen and full sizes, and bedding such as sheets and blankets to go with them, dressers and chests of drawers, sofas, love seats and small dining tables and chairs, according to the Rev. Mearle Griffith, HNFB executive director.

If you have any gently used items, clean and not requiring repairs, that you would like to donate, HopeNow has drop-off times on Tuesdays from 1-3:30 p.m. and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at 1201 S. Main St., Mount Vernon. There is also the option of having HopeNow volunteers pick up the items for a $20 donation, scheduled through its website, www.hopenowfurniturebank.org, or by calling 740-358-2998.

Families are eligible if they are Knox County residents and have income low enough to qualify for food stamps or Medicaid assistance.

HopeNow Furniture Bank announced that it received a $5,000 Knox Community Foundation Grant. These funds support its Stock the Shelves initiative and allow HNFB to purchase new household items for clients when donations run out.
