Centerburg puts up four runs three times to defeat Madison Christian 14-3

The Centerburg Trojans scored four runs in each of the third, fourth and sixth innings to down Madison Christian 15-3 on April 8.

Centerburg struck first with two runs in inning number one. Dakota Baer was hit by a pitch, stole second and scored on a single by Jesse Rings. Dalton Hall was hit by a pitch, took second on defensive indifference and scored on an Isiah Reynolds single to make it 2-0 Trojans. In the third, Centerburg added four runs on a single by Hall and a couple of walks. Hall stole home and Jesse Rings, who had walked and stole second and third, scored on a Grayson Reynolds sacrifice. RBI singles by Reed Compton and Tyler Johnson made it 6-0 Centerburg. The Eagles scored three to cut the lead in half, but two more four spots by the Trojans put the game on ice. The big blast was a bases-loaded triple by Caylan Lemaster in the fourth to drive in three. The Trojans stole seven bases and were caught only once.

Outhitting MC 13-3, Centerburg got hits from nine batters and was paced by Compton, who banged out three hits and drove in a pair of runs. Lemaster had three RBIs on one hit (a triple) and Jesse Rings and Isiah Reynolds each connected for two hits. Four Trojan pitchers combined to limit Madison to three hits and two earned runs.

 

Pinkerton’s four hits lead Scots to 10-3 win over Stallions

Zach Pinkerton connected for four hits and the Highland Fighting Scots banged out 15 safeties to outscore St. Francis DeSales 15-3 Friday to improve to 5-2 on the season. Highland went ahead 3-0 in the first on a double by lead-off hitter Rider Minnick, a run-scoring single by Pinkerton, a walk to Kort Sears, an RBI double by Luke Cain and a single by Adi Karya. After the Stallions scored three in the third, the Scots took the game over with a four-run fourth. A one-out single by Brock Church, another single by Pinkerton, a run-scoring single by Sears, a sac by Cain and an error on the play drove in Pinkerton. A Karya bunt scored Sears and Highland was up 9-3.

Nine Scots tallied hits led by Pinkerton’s four and Cain’s three. Five Scots drove in two runs apiece and three Highlanders scored twice. Cooper Merckling got the win as one of three Highland pitchers who combined to strike out nine, walk two and allow three hits. In a game a day earlier (Highland played two vs. Marion Pleasant that day), Highland bested Marion Pleasant 9-1. Pinkerton knocked out three hits and Minnick pitched four no-hit shutout innings, walking three and striking out seven. Highland also won the first game of the April 7 double-dip, winning 9-6.

Freddies drub Indians 17-0, tie 3-3 in suspended game

In back-to-back games April 7 and 8, Fredericktown bombed Mount Gilead 17-0, then fought to a 3-3 tie in a game suspended in the fourth inning.

On April 7, the top two hitters in the Freddies’ line-up connected for nine hits and scored eight times as Fredericktown had the game their way from the first, pecked away throughout the game, then put up nine in the seventh to overwhelm Mount Gilead 17-0. Kaid Carpenter struck for five hits and Brady Lester got four to lead a 20-hit attack. Teegan Ruhl finished with three hits for the Freddies while the Indians could only muster two safeties all game. Lester connected for two triples and a double and Carpenter drove in four, while Braden Sapp and Xavier Mullins each had three RBIs to do most of the damage for Fredericktown. Mullins homered in the seventh. Carpenter also pitched six shutout innings, allowing two hits and a walk while ringing up six Ks to get the win on the mound.

The following day, Fredericktown started as they left off with three runs in the first, but Mount Gilead put up one in the first and two in the fourth to tie it as the game was suspended before the Freddies could bat in the bottom of the fourth.

Jackets take 7-0 lead, hold on to outlast Wooster 9-7

Mount Vernon scored two in the first, two in the second and three in the fourth to take a 7-0 lead, gave up four in the fifth and withstood a three-run rally in the seventh to hold on for a 9-7 win over Wooster on April 8.

In the bottom of the first, Mount Vernon got on the board after a one-out single by Caden Rowland and a homerun to left by Konnae Daughriety. In the third, with one out, Jonny Askew walked and stole second, advancing to third on a ground out. An intentional walk to Daughriety and a hit batter (Cash Finnell) loaded the bases. Logan Trace mashed a two-out two-run single to make it 4-0 Jackets. In the fourth a one-out double by Owynn Gleason, and a two-out single by Askew pushed across a run. An error plated Marcus Bradley (who reached on a fielder’s choice) and Askew to make it 7-0, Jackets.

Wooster put up four in the fifth to cut the lead to three, but Mount Vernon got two back on a one-out run-scoring single by Cedric Berger and a two-out RBI-single by Bradley. Wooster made things tense in the final inning on a hit, an HBP, back-to-back errors and a ground out. The game ended on a line drive DP to Daughriety.

Wooster outhit the Jackets 9-8 and eight MV batters got a hit apiece. Trace, Rowland and Daughriety each drove in two runs as Mount Vernon improved to 5-1 this season.
