Freddies hand Lady Devils first loss, 8-1

A seven-run second inning by Fredericktown’s softball squad, derailed Danville’s perfect 3-0 season as the Freddies handed the Lady Blue Devils an 8-1 loss, April 4. After a scoreless first, Fredericktown exploded for seven runs in an error-filled second and added another in the third to take a commanding 8-0 lead. The Lady Freddies finished with nine hits, to five for Danville and Fredericktown played errorless ball while Danville made four miscues. Jess Montalvo and Makaya Frazier each had two hits for the Freddies, among seven girls who reached safely on hits. Danville had three girls reach base on hits – Addison Mickley and Brogan Staats with two and Grace Gronberg with one. Miranda Payne got the win for Fredericktown, pitching three innings and striking four while allowing one run. Kennedy Algire finished up in the circle for Fredericktown, pitching four shutout innings. Gronberg pitched 5 1/3 innings for Danville and gave up eight runs of which only two were earned,

On Monday, April 4, an eight-run second inning propelled Cardington-Lincoln to a resounding 12-2 softball victory over Northmor. Down 1-0 after one, the Lady Pirates batted around and put an eight-spot on the board. Ahead 9-2 after five, C-L added one in sixth and two more in the seventh for the 10-run victory. Dana Bertke and Kayleigh Ufferman each drove in three runs to lead Cardington, and six Lady Pirates got two hits each as nine C-L batters got hits in the 15-hit attack. Genevieve Longsdorf pitched seven innings and gave up a lone hit while striking out 14 to earn the victory.

 

Lady Jackets recover from first loss, bomb Generals 15-0

Following a 5-0 spring break road trip to Florida, the Lady Jackets returned home jetlagged and sluggish and fell to Lincoln 10-0, April 4. After two scoreless innings, Lincoln’s Golden Lions went ahead 1-0 and the score remained one-zip until Lincoln pulled away with four in the fifth and five in the sixth. Outhit 12-5, the Yellow Jackets’ bright spot in the lineup was McKenzie Krownapple, who went 2-for-3.

The stung Yellow Jackets responded in a big way, the following day. Mount Vernon’s softball squad moved to 6-1 on the season with a thorough onslaught of the Wooster Generals, 15-0, April 5. The Lady Jackets started the assault with a seven-run first, and led 10-0 after two. Five more runs in the fourth put the game away, and the Generals surrendered after five innings. Mount Vernon outhit Wooster 11 to five and the Lady Jackets played errorless ball while the Generals were guilty of seven miscues. Emilee Burke was in the circle for Mount Vernon, pitching the complete game, striking out seven while not issuing any walks. Mac Schlosser drove in four runs on a homerun and a single and scored three runs to lead the scoring drive, and seven Lady Yellow Jackets reach base on hits with Schlosser, McKenzie Krownapple, Emma Calkins and Kelly Sullins connecting for two hits each. Krownapple finished with a double and a triple in the game.
