GAMBIER – Gambier Village Council approved constructing an extension of the Wiggin Street sidewalk at its regular monthly meeting.

The new sidewalk would extend from the Meadow Lane crosswalk on the north side of Wiggin to Quarry Chapel Road. V3 Companies (formerly Bird & Bull) was authorized to do the design and engineering specs for the work that is expected to be done this summer.

Council also approved a six percent increase in village employees’ base rate. The higher-than-usual increase was done to help offset the higher cost of living experienced in the past year.

In other items, Council:

  • Passed a resolution to oppose Ohio HB 327, which, in its current form, would prohibit schools from “teaching, advocating or promoting divisive concepts."
  • Approved a resolution to purchase road salt through the ODOT contract.
  • Set Stick it to the Village days for April 11 and April 25, when residents place fallen limbs and brush that have accumulated over the winter out to the curb for village employees to pick up.
  • Added a community shredding event to the annual Dumpster Day on May 7.
  • Encouraged residents to participate in a “No Mow May” to allow pollinators to thrive this spring and summer.
  • Approved a variance on a requirement to install a fence for an in-ground swimming pool as the resident is adding a locked pool cover.
  • Heard for the second time a resolution of support for the Knox County Active Transportation Plan.
Next Council meeting is May 2 at 7 p.m.
