Maysville’s six-run seventh drops East Knox, 10-4, then Bulldogs explode in nightcap, 21-3, on Smith’s seven RBIs

The East Knox softball team was stunned in the opener and responded with a blowout in Game 2 on April 2 against Marysville. 

For six innings, the first game seesawed back and forth between Marysville and East Knox. EK took a 2-1 lead after one, but Marysville tied it 2-2 after two. East Knox retook the lead 4-3 after three, and the Panthers tied it at 4-4 after six. Then came the seventh, when Marysville hit and walked and walked some more for six runs to put the game out of reach for the Lady Bulldogs.

Shanda Melick went 3-for-3, and Natalie Smith had two hits – a double and a home run –  and drove in two runs for East Knox. which outhit Maysville 9-8.

In Game 2, the Lady Bulldogs left nothing to chance: They scored four in the first and put the game out of reach with a 12-run second. After three, the lady Dogs were up 19-0.

Smith was the hitting star with three hits, four runs scored and seven RBIs, starting with a grand slam in the second and adding RBis in the second and fourth innings. Six Lady Bulldogs drove in runs in the 12-run second. Ava Stiltner joined Smith with three hits, and Gracie Sheadby and Addison Davis each connected twice. Maddie Cotsamire pitched five innings for the win.

Lady Blue Devils start season 3-0 with 13-4 rout of Fisher Catholic

The Danville Lady Blue Devils won their third straight game to start the season as they routed Fisher Catholic 13-4 on March 31. Danville has now outscored its opponents 42-8 in three games.

Danville scored six in the first and never looked back, scoring in every inning to take a 9-0 lead before the Lady Irish put two on the board in the top of the fifth. Fisher added two more in the sixth, but Danville closed out the scoring with three in the sixth to claim a nine-run victory.

Danville outhit Fisher 12-8 and was led by Taryn Mickley’s three hits in three at-bats – she also scored three runs. Addison Mickley, Taylor Price and Grace Gronberg got two hits each as seven Lady Devils connected. Gronberg drove in three runs. Six Lady Devils drove in runs. Addison Mickey scored three runs, and seven Danville players scored at  least one run. Taryn Mickley, Price and Gronberg each swatted out doubles, and Taryn Mickley and Keaura Shilling each stole two bases; Addison Mickley stole one bag. 

Alicia Humphrey went all the way in the circle for Danville to earn the win, surrendering three earned runs. She walked four and struck out 11.
