At a ceremony that took place on March 9 in Columbus, three Knox County Schools board members were recognized for their contributions to their district.

In a press release, Kim Miller-Smith, OSBA Central Region manager, recognized the board members for the awards that were given to them as a result of their public service.

The first recipient, Richard McLarnan, is a board member at the Knox County Educational Service Center and the Knox County Career Center. McLarnan was awarded the OSBA Service Award, one of four recognitions that comprise the association’s STAR Awards, which honor the work of school board members. The S is for Service, T for Training, A for Aptitude and the R for Recognition.

The second recipient was Jody Goetzman, a board member with the Mount Vernon and Knox County Career Centers. Goetzman was given the Board of Education service recognition award, honoring her for 15 years of dedicated board service.

The final recipient was Dr. Marguerite Bennett, a board member with Mount Vernon City Schools and the Knox County Career Center. Dr. Bennett also received the OSBA award in recognition of serving on a local school board and in district, regional and state leadership roles.

The Ohio School Boards Association was founded in 1955. Its mission is to lead the state in educational excellence by supporting Ohio’s public school board and districts with superior service, advocacy and creativity.

The press release also said that anyone who would like more information about the awards and the board members who received awards should contact OSB or their local school board members.
