MOUNT VERNON – When you’re a comedian, sometimes you have the honor of being the opening act for a high-flying acrobatic troupe.

At least, that’s what “Saturday Night Live” alumnus Kevin Nealon will be doing when his June 16 performance at the Woodward Opera House ushers in a “thrilling acrobatic show” two days later at the Knox Memorial Theater.

On June 18, "Aureum: An Aerial and Acrobatic Adventure Tale from Halcyon Shows" will premiere for performances at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m., according to a press release from the Mount Vernon Arts Consortium.

“Dance, drama, music and masterful aerial artistry, 'Aureum' is an electrifying and unique performance experience that is sure to dazzle audiences of ages,” said Martin Booker, the consortium's executive director.

Aureum presents a fantasy tale of a time traveler battling the forces of good and evil.

“With an original soundtrack and high-flying technical elements, it is an incomparable night of music, acrobatics and theater,” the Arts Consortium said.

Before that, Nealon will be getting the town ready with his June 16 stand-up comedy act at the Woodward Opera House. To find details about Nealon’s performance, visit thewoodward.org/index.php/events3/other-events/170-kevin-nealon.

The shows are being pitched as a draw for both tourists and townies, complementing the area’s “outdoor recreation, arts and culture opportunities, and a vibrant food scene,” the consortium said. “The town has a variety of lodging options that range from boutique inns to recognizable hotel chains and an upscale hotel, offering the chance to turn any day trip to the region into a weekend getaway."

“This is the exact quality of talent and entertainment value that the Mount Vernon Arts Consortium will continue to bring to our thriving community and beautiful and historic venues," Booker said.
