Keaura Shilling, a four-year letterman for the Danville Blue Deville’s softball team, signed a letter of intent to play her college ball at Capital University in Bexley, Ohio, (near Columbus). Shilling will join the Comets after playing her senior year at Danville.
The ceremonial signing took place in the Danville HS lobby at noon Friday and was attended by administration, coaches, faculty, students and the Lady Blue Devils softball team.
Danville’s softball coach, Charlie Duncan, said Shilling was one of two seniors on the team this year and that as a four-year-letterman, she deserved the attention and the scholarship.
“Keaura is our second baseman, a hard worker, a team leader and she deserves this next step in her career," Duncan said. "She is a very strong defensive player and an asset on offense as well.”
Shilling, nicknamed “Keyno,” plays second base and the outfield for Danville, which went 20-8 last season, 9-5 in KMAC play. She was named to the KMAC All-League team and Central District All-District team in 2021. Last season, Shilling played all 28 Danville games and batted .380 with 23 RBI. She also connected for three home runs and displayed a good batting eye, leading the team with 16 walks to help raise her nn-base average to .491 and her OPS (on base plus slugging) to 1.043. Her baserunning ability and speed contributed to her 19 stolen bases (fourth highest total in school history) and team-leading 41 runs scored in 2021 (third highest in school history). After helping lead Danville in its 2022 season, she will join a 2023 Capital Comets team that went 12-20 in the Ohio Athletic Conference in 2021.
Shilling attended several softball camps for prospects and future college players, received an offer from Capital and accepted it.
Duncan added, “She is such a hard worker who also put in time in the off-season, that I know she will make a difference for us this year and for Capital after her graduation from Danville.”
Danville athletic director Robert Miller said, “I think she is a great kid from a great family, and Is a hard worker who always finds a way to get the job done. She also is a National Honor Society member.”
