DANVILLE – Naomi C. (Speckman) Smith, 90, passed away Thursday, Jan. 27, 2022, at the Laurels of Mount Vernon.

She was born Feb. 13, 1931, to the late Ralph and Marjorie (Kirch) Speckman, the eldest of five girls on a farm near New Castle. She graduated from Union High School in 1948 and married her loving husband of 61 years, the late M. Eugene “Boomer” Smith, on April 16, 1950.

Naomi enjoyed the milestones of her family. birthdays, graduations, weddings and family gatherings. Together as a family, they camped at various parks and sites around Ohio, and made trips to Marietta to visit family and watch the riverboats on the Ohio River.

Over the years, she worked at Mizer Dairy, Hammonds Supermarket and Patented Products. Her hobbies were cooking, sewing, gardening and the company of friends on card club night. She loved time spent watching her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, especially over the holidays where everyone enjoyed her scrumptious meals and baked goods.

She is survived by her son, Greg (Nancy) Smith of Danville; daughter, Connie (Steve) Thomas of Mount Vernon; grandsons, Jeremy Stake and Brian (Cassie) Smith of Danville, Travis (Brandy) Thomas and Zach (Mindy) Thomas of Mount Vernon; granddaughter, Stacy (Jim) Shultz of Danville; great-grandsons, Cayden, Brandyn, Isaac, Logan and Asa; great-granddaughters, Brianna, Tess, Sophie, Olivia, Callie, Aubree and Addy; sisters, Rhea (Ed) Richards, Rhetta Jean McCurdy [FFH1] , Edna Speckman and Beverly (Don) Cummings; and many nieces and nephews. She was a loving sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother whom we will surely miss.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Carl McCurdy.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, at the Fischer Funeral Home in Danville. John Kirch will officiate. Burial will follow in Workman Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 10-11 a.m.
