Taking first place, swimming against five teams in a Dec. 8 meet at River Valley, the Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets swim team “dominated the pool,” coach Kevin Steel said.
The MVHS swim team took first place with an impressive 162-point lead over the second-place team from River Valley, placing first in 13 of the 22 events. The girls team earned 197 points to win by 77 points over River Valley, with the boys team securing the domination by contributing 181 points to earn the first-place win by 81 points over Marion Harding.
Mount Vernon coaches named their swimmers of the meet as Rylee Jarosz (sophomore) and James Frazee (senior). Jarosz persevered to win the 200 IM and pushed hard to finish third in the 100-meter butterfly shortly thereafter. Frazee pulled through as a last-minute alternate in the boys 400-meter freestyle relay at the end of the night. Both student-athletes showed solid races in the meet.

Will Laymon, Thomas Sant, Landon Rush and Ethan Brooks won first place in the boys 200 medley relay with a time of 2:06.42
Jarosz, Liz Cline, Anna Rhodeback and Bre McCluskey earned first place in the in the girls 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:54.56.
Rush, Sant, Brooks and Laymon won the boys 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:47.24.
Cline, Rhodeback, Julie King, and Rebekah Lebold took first place in the girls 400 freestyle relay with a time of 4:36.07.
