MOUNT VERNON – A Service of Lessons and Carols will be held at Saint Paul's Episcopal Church, 100 East High St., on Sunday, Dec. 19, at 10:30 a.m. The Service of Lessons and Carols is a beautiful combination of scripture readings and music that enables those participating to prepare for the yearly remembrance of the birth of Christ. Carols sung by the congregation or solos follow each reading.
The choir of Saint Paul's will be joined by soloists Sharon Blaydes, Lily Mayville, Mark Tillack, Emily Hammond, Kate Ernsberger, Cora Andrews and Luane Campbell.
The Service of Lessons and Carols originated at King's College Chapel, Cambridge University, Cambridge, England, in 1918 to bring a more imaginative approach to worship. It was first broadcast in 1928 and is now broadcast to millions of people around the world. This event is so highly prized in England that those wishing to get a seat in the chapel must arrive hours in advance of the service.
All are welcome to join the congregation of Saint Paul's for this uplifting seasonal celebration. Questions may be directed to the church office at 740-392-8601.
