Lady Pirates remain undefeated by routing Lady Trojans, 61-34

Scoring early and often and playing a suffocating defense, the Cardington-Lincoln Lady Pirates (6-0, 3-0 KMAC) kept their unbeaten season on course and dominated the Centerburg Lady Trojans (1-4, 0-2 KMAC), 61-34, on Wednesday.

Forcing 25 turnovers, while committing only 10 themselves, C-L relied on the Edwards sisters to provide the scoring punch. Beth Hardwick had been averaging 18.8 points per game, but on this night, she hit for only eight, while Kambry and Karsyn Edwards combined for 30 points to propel the Lady Pirates.

The Lady Pirates saw four girls score in the first and also in the second, third and fourth quarters as seven different players put up points for C-L.

Centerburg’s Clara Johnson came out firing in the first quarter and rainbowed in three three-point shots to score all of the Lady Trojans’ points in the first quarter. But Mikayla Linkous answered for Cardington-Lincoln and scored eight points in the first quarter, as four C-L girls put points through the twine to lead the game 16-9 after one.

Kambry Edwards hit a three and scored six points, and Dana Bertke drained a three and was good for five points in the second quarter as C-L outscored Centerburg 17-6 for a 33-15 halftime advantage.

In the third, Kambry Edwards scored seven and Karsyn Edwards five for C-L to extend the lead to 50-22 going into the fourth.

Kambry Edwards led the balanced team-scoring with five in the fourth, and Kayla Larimore scored seven fourth-quarter points for Centerburg.

For Cardington-Lincoln, Kambry Edwards led all scorers with 18 points – including three from three-point range, Karsyn Edwards hit for 12, Mikayla Linkous scored 11, and Hardwick and Bertke each tallied eight. Johnson led Centerburg with 14 points, and Larimore finished with nine.

Northmor girls take down Freddies, 58-47

Northmor (3-3, 1-2 KMAC) took care of the ball all night and took a commanding early lead to notch its first KMAC victory this season in besting Fredericktown (4-2, 2-2 KMAC) by a score of 58-47.

Protecting the ball, the Golden Knights committed only nine turnovers to 22 for the Freddies.

The game started well for Northmor, which took a 22-8 lead after one on 11 points, including three from three-point range, by Brooklyn Dennison. Lexi Wenger scored seven, and Reagan Swihart hit the twine for four.

The Golden Knights maintained the advantage through the second quarter and led at halftime, 33-19. Paige Caudill scored five in the quarter.

The Freddies cut into the lead with a 12-10 third quarter as Gabby Daniels hit four twos. Swihart countered with two threes and eight points in the quarter for Northmor.

The fourth quarter went to Fredericktown, 16-15, but the victory margin of 11 points was too much for the Freddies to overturn. Daniels hit for six and Cally Carpenter for five for the Freddies in the fourth, and Swihart scored seven – five at the foul line – for Northmor in the fourth.

For the game, Swihart led Northmor with 19 points, Dennison scored 16 points and Wenger had 12 points to lead the Golden Knights, who got scoring from seven players.
