MOUNT VERNON – Lanny Glyde Ross, 87, of Mount Vernon died Friday, Nov. 19, 2021, at his home surrounded by his family.
Lanny was born Nov. 8, 1934, in Massillon to Throllis and Katherine (Crookston) Ross.
He began working at 16 with his lifelong career in construction.
He married Janet Moreland on Dec. 25, 1982.
After a short time at Pittsburgh Plate Glass, he started his own successful construction company. He did all facets of construction, from the ground up. He was a member of Fredericktown Seventh Day Adventist Church. His passion was working with wood, muscle cars, watching boats, fishing, and whatever his family was doing. Lanny always put his family first.
Lanny will be deeply missed by his wife, Janet Ross; the mother of his children, Shirley Ann Alexander; children, Douglas (Merita) Ross, Billie Gay (Ron) Jones, Thomas (Christine) Ross, Robin (Tanja) Ross and Kellie (Mitch) Martin; five step-children; grandchildren, Landra, Angela, Nicole, Kendra, Cory, Lanny, Lacy, Douglas and Kassady; nine great-grandchildren; many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; sisters, Carol (Harold) Sivey, Mary Lou Grandstaff and Sharon Vance; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Lanny is also survived by his beloved dog, Max.
Lanny was preceded in death by his brothers, Austin Ross and Robin Ross; and sisters, Martha Chaney and Barb Grabiel.
Graveside services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Roberts Funeral Home - Mount Vernon Chapel. Burial will be at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
