WESTERVILLE – Kroger issued a challenge on Oct. 7 to Buckeye Nation and all Kroger customers in its stores: Help us tackle hunger by donating one million meals by Thanksgiving.

The call to action is part of Kroger’s Zero Hunger, Zero Waste plan to end hunger in local communities and eliminate waste across the company by 2025.

Fans may contribute by rounding up at registers in Kroger stores, with every dollar donated providing up to 10 meals to the local community, according to a news release. Kroger also offers the opportunity for donations online at ZeroHungerZeroWasteFoundation.org.

“We are honored to bring about this challenge once again. There is no limit to what Buckeye Nation can accomplish when we come together, which is why we issued this call to help feed those in need this season,” said Amy McCormick, corporate affairs manager, the Kroger Co., Columbus Division. “This time of year can be challenging for many families, especially with the colder weather and bills piling up. We are in a position to help tackle hunger here at its source.”

Kroger, a sponsor of Ohio State athletics, kicked off the million-meal challenge during the Ohio State vs. University of Maryland football game at Ohio Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 9. While Buckeye fans can round up at Kroger registers now, Ohio State Athletics concessionaire Levy will accept $1 donations toward the million-meal goal at concession stands during all home games through Nov. 25.

Contributions may be made at the Ohio Stadium and the Schottenstein Center during football, men’s and women’s basketball games, as well as men’s hockey games.
