MOUNT VERNON – The first Johnny Appleseed Apple Fest will take place Saturday, Oct. 9, in downtown Mount Vernon.
Sponsored by The Peoples Bank of Gambier, the Johnny Appleseed Apple Fest is a Main Street Mount Vernon event celebrating all things apple and honoring one of Mount Vernon’s most notable pioneers, Johnny Appleseed. It will run from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. and feature food, live music and demonstrations in the Central Business District.
The Main Stage at the intersection of Blackberry Alley and East Ohio Avenue will welcome a Johnny Appleseed performance by Pleasant Street Elementary third-grade students at 10 a.m. and live music from Steamtown Road from 11:30 a.m. - 2 p.m.
The Demonstration Station will include era-appropriate demonstrations on West Ohio Avenue. A rotating cycle of demonstrators will take place on the secondary stage at the intersection of South Main Street and East Ohio Avenue.
A Kids' Zone will feature activities designed to both entertain and educate young minds on Howard Street and inside 400 South Main St. SPI Spot will not be charging admission during the event. Mount Vernon Players have talked Johnny Appleseed himself into making an appearance.
Vendors will be able to sell directly from the streets of Downtown.
